Chapter 33: Aim for the Flame

"It's not too far now," Skipper noted as he steered the small boat to the left.

Link peered over the side, watching droplets of water fly everywhere as the boat sped through the water. It was a strange feeling, seeing endless sand in all directions, and then looking to the small circle of clear water around the boat. Bright coral reefs were visible beneath the waves, colorful fish darting in and out of them.

A strip of land became more clear and close along the horizon. It was the island they were looking for: the Pirate Stronghold. Skipper looked nervous, hands shaking as he veered the boat towards land.

"This is pretty scary..." Skipper trailed off, fidgeting uncomfortably. "The pirate captain is a mechanical maniac! He's got no shortage of evil underlings, too! I never wanted to lay eyes on him again, but... if we want to take the ship back, then we have no choice."

Skipper docked the boat. "This is it. Just as scary as I imagined it... but if you think about it, they should all be dead! The only reason I'm up and about like this is because of this Timeshift Stone on the boat! So we have nothing to worry about after all... what a relief."

He looked to Link. "Would you mind poking around to see if you can find my ship? They might have stashed it here to keep it safe."

Link nodded and began to walk cautiously around the stronghold. It was oddly shaped; a long sharp point stuck out from its top, ragged red flag waving in the wind. Jagged teeth stuck out in neat rows with two holes jutting out above them. It looked like a giant creature of the deep, opening its maw wide to eat its prey.

Link swallowed hard, reminding himself about what Skipper said about the pirates all being dead now. But he still tried to walk as quietly as possible forward.

He came to a bridge. He frowned, realizing there was no good place to hide a giant ship here since everything was so open. He was about to head back when he saw the mess of objects sticking out of the sinksand beside him. A closer look revealed them to be parts of old ships, long since sunk in the sand. Tattered sails waved on the broken masts, splinters jutting out at all angles.

Fi appeared, startling him in the stillness. I have information to report, Master. Please take a look. She gestured to one of the broken masts. There is a 60% probability that these sails are made out of the same material as the ones on the ship that protects Nayru's Flame. We can use their aura to search for the concealed ship.

Sweet,
Link thought happily as Fi disappeared again. Then we can finally reach the Sacred Flame. He ran back to tell Skipper the good news.

"So my ship isn't here, but you know how to find it?" Skipper nodded thoughtfully. "All right, I'll steer, and you tell me which way to go."

So they set sail, Link straining his body, feeling for any stirring within himself. They had been sailing for about five minutes when finally he felt a tugging in his chest; it was coming from the right. He pointed this out to Skipper.

"More than likely the ship is currently hidden from out view," Skipper said, steering right. "But if we attack it, then we might catch a glimpse of it!"

He pointed to the back of the boat, where a big red button was. "That button controls the cannon," Skipper explained. "When we're close to the ship, give it a push!"

Link felt the vibrations getting stronger and stronger, until finally he felt they were right on top of the ship. He pressed the button, and a large black cannonball shot from the front of the boat. It seemed to hit something, bouncing off thin air. For a split second, the ghostly outline of a large boxy ship could be seen.

"Did you see that?! That's my ship!" Skipper exclaimed. "We must pursue, and keep pounding it with the cannon!"

They followed the vibrations, Link rapidly pressing the cannon button. After a bit of fading in and out of sight, with a great grinding sound, the large ship became clearly visible and slowly came to a halt.

Skipper guided the boat alongside the silent ship. A long rusty ladder was attached to its side. "Please rescue my crew and regain control of my ship!" Skipper whispered, a pleading tone in his voice. "They're all I've got..." he said even quieter, almost to himself.

Link nodded, grabbing hold of the ladder. Hand over hand, foot over foot, he climbed the side of the massive ship, a determined expression on his face.
Link makes his way the the Pirate Stronghold and eventually finds Skipper's ship. Way too short, I know, but I'll revise it later.
